Fashion and Function: The New 2020 Essentials

by Tessa Hall September 23, 2020

So clearly 2020 has been nothing like we anticipated. As an extension of that, our new wardrobe looks and choices have kind of been the same way. Has that tube of mascara you bought in March lasted you into the fall? It’s okay! That’s where we’re at too!

Let’s take the shame out of low-maintenance looks and let’s embrace this new normal for what it has to offer: functional and fashionable alternatives!

9 Ways to Actively Fight Anti-Black Racism In Fashion

9 Ways to Actively Fight Anti-Black Racism In Fashion

by Tessa Hall June 19, 2020

If you’re like us, you’ve been reflecting, listening, and educating yourself on the current racial injustices in the world. This was sparked by the brutal murder of George Floyd in the United States and the associating protests that have happened as a result of that. We, as a world, have been made aware (again!) to the grim reality that still faces a large population of our world, simply based on the color of their skin. This MUST change and this must change now. Colonialism and its damaging effects have been a part of North American culture for over 400 years now. It affects every industry and every sector of our society. Nothing is free of the effects of racism still happening today, and the fashion industry is most definitely a part of that.

Thinking about Mother Nature this Mother’s Day!

Thinking about Mother Nature this Mother’s Day!

by Darina Granik May 07, 2020 2 Comments

After celebrating Earth Day and looking forward to Mother’s Day, it is about time we discuss Mother Nature and how we can help her. Scrolling through social media, filled with past travels and one-wear #ootds, it seemed like the meaning of Earth Day was misinterpreted and lost. This is why we have to take actions in order to protect our Mother Nature from disastrous climate change and destruction. In this month's blog post, we will discuss how we can easily do it and what role companies like Lux Second Chance play in this.

Consumer Behaviour In the Effects of COVID-19

Consumer Behaviour In the Effects of COVID-19

by Tessa Hall April 16, 2020

You’ve heard about it on the news, you’ve seen people sharing information about it all over social media. Although it is possible to avoid COVID-19 with physical precautions, it seems virtually impossible to avoid it everywhere else. It has consumed all mainstream media and the thoughts of basically the entire population at this point. It seemed inconceivable to write a blog this month without mentioning COVID-19 as every—and we really mean every—sector of the world is being affected by it.

International Women’s Day Edition: Women in sustainability and fashion

International Women’s Day Edition: Women in sustainability and fashion

by Darina Granik March 04, 2020 1 Comment

For this International Women’s Day we wanted to celebrate women’s impact on our planet in terms of sustainability and luxury fashion. It has been discussed in media, and Green Peace has reported that “feminism and environmentalism go hand in hand. Together, they provide a way out of the current global crisis.” Notably, it is mostly female activists, fashion designers, influencers and writers who take on action to carry the message of importance of eco-consciousness to consumers. Below we are going to focus on a few great women, who make their impact on such a hot topic.

The Gifts of Love (and Luxury) 😍

The Gifts of Love (and Luxury) 😍

by Tessa Hall February 10, 2020

Get out your finest reds and pinks, your cheesiest pickup lines, and your cliché date ideas, because it’s that time of the year again boys and girls: Valentine’s Day! Or maybe we should use the more inclusive alternatives, Galentine’s Day or Palentine’s Day. Whatever which way you decide to celebrate February 14th, whether it’s love-theme or anti-love theme (see Jessica Biel’s character from the 2010 film, Valentine’s Day, as inspiration), you can always do it with fun and colorful style, killer gift ideas, and the ultimate excuse to “treat yo-self” or someone you love!

7 Ways to Practice Self-Care and Kick the Winter Blues

by Diana Nguyen January 30, 2020

Let’s face it, winter gets pretty hard once the magic and romance of the Christmas season is behind us. For me, I’ve always wished that winter ends with Christmas so we can at least have something to look forward to and anticipate to get us through the long, cold months. However, we know the calendar doesn’t work that way, and weather (😉) we like it or not, we have to get ourselves through January…. February…. March... and sometimes a chilly April! So how do we do this?

What Does Black Friday and Cyber Monday Mean for Luxury Brands?

What Does Black Friday and Cyber Monday Mean for Luxury Brands?

by Tessa Hall November 19, 2019

For most people, when you hear “Black Friday” you think of mobs of people almost breaking down the doors of a Walmart or Best Buy to get an insane deal on flat screen TVs or laptops. Similarly, when many people hear “Cyber Monday” they think of sites like Amazon crashing due to the high volume of traffic and users trying to get in on the hot, online discounts. Which leaves us wondering, “how do luxury brands do Black Friday and Cyber Monday?”

THIS OR THAT: BATTLE OF THE ULTIMATE CROSSBODY BAGS

THIS OR THAT: BATTLE OF THE ULTIMATE CROSSBODY BAGS

by Diana Nguyen November 05, 2019

This month on the blog we tackle a “this or that” debate that I’m sure everyone has an opinion on! What is the ultimate crossbody bag? How do you define it? What makes it unique, but practical? We dive into the specifics of our top four based on reviews and research of these luxury finds.

More common than ever, designers are including a longer crossbody strap to many handbags in order to add more versatility and ways to wear (which we love, of course!). As a result, the distinct criterion for this list is that these bags can only be worn crossbody; otherwise the options on what to include would be limitless! Let’s get started!

by Tessa Hall September 27, 2019

It’s that time of the year again! The Toronto International Film Festival has come to a close and the fall film reviews are in! We at Lux Second Chance have taken a specific interest in films that deal with the topics of sustainability, the luxury market, and the ethics around fast-fashion. This year TIFF delivered with two titles that virtually speak for themselves: Rubaiyat Hossain’s insightful feature debut, Made in Bangladesh, and Michael Winterbottom’s latest mockumentary, Greed.
