Chanel Ups Their Prices, Again--and They’re Not Alone

Chanel Ups Their Prices, Again--and They’re Not Alone

Posted by TESSA HALL

If you’re a loyal Chanel fan, then you’re already aware that the iconic brand has once again increased their prices of styles, like the Chanel 19 Small Bag, up by 10% as of July 1, 2021. This most recent price increase from Chanel marks it’s third increase in the span of 14 months; during a pandemic no less. Yes, Chanel’s increase was noteworthy among many fashion bibles and publications, but it is not unique from the current trend happening within luxury brands at present.

Why Buying Secondhand Luxury Products is a Smart Investment

Why Buying Secondhand Luxury Products is a Smart Investment

Is investing in the cards for your future? Does that sound totally dry and really not something you’ve thought about in-depth? Once upon a time (when our parents were young adults and thinking about their first investments) you’d have to go into a bank, talk in great lengths to some generic-looking man and try and remember all the jargon words being tossed around like diversification, bonds, dividends, and volatility. Well, times have changed, in a big way!

Love fashion? Great at scouting out a deal? Then maybe your type of smart investment lies in the resale luxury market.

9 Ways to Actively Fight Anti-Black Racism In Fashion

9 Ways to Actively Fight Anti-Black Racism In Fashion

If you’re like us, you’ve been reflecting, listening, and educating yourself on the current racial injustices in the world. This was sparked by the brutal murder of George Floyd in the United States and the associating protests that have happened as a result of that. We, as a world, have been made aware (again!) to the grim reality that still faces a large population of our world, simply based on the color of their skin. This MUST change and this must change now. Colonialism and its damaging effects have been a part of North American culture for over 400 years now. It affects every industry and every sector of our society. Nothing is free of the effects of racism still happening today, and the fashion industry is most definitely a part of that.

Thinking about Mother Nature this Mother’s Day!

Thinking about Mother Nature this Mother’s Day!

Posted by DARINA GRANIK

After celebrating Earth Day and looking forward to Mother’s Day, it is about time we discuss Mother Nature and how we can help her. Scrolling through social media, filled with past travels and one-wear #ootds, it seemed like the meaning of Earth Day was misinterpreted and lost. This is why we have to take actions in order to protect our Mother Nature from disastrous climate change and destruction. In this month's blog post, we will discuss how we can easily do it and what role companies like Lux Second Chance play in this.

International Women’s Day Edition: Women in sustainability and fashion

Posted by DARINA GRANIK

For this International Women’s Day we wanted to celebrate women’s impact on our planet in terms of sustainability and luxury fashion. It has been discussed in media, and Green Peace has reported that “feminism and environmentalism go hand in hand. Together, they provide a way out of the current global crisis.” Notably, it is mostly female activists, fashion designers, influencers and writers who take on action to carry the message of importance of eco-consciousness to consumers. Below we are going to focus on a few great women, who make their impact on such a hot topic.

Get out your finest reds and pinks, your cheesiest pickup lines, and your cliché date ideas, because it’s that time of the year again boys and girls: Valentine’s Day! Or maybe we should use the more inclusive alternatives, Galentine’s Day or Palentine’s Day. Whatever which way you decide to celebrate February 14th, whether it’s love-theme or anti-love theme (see Jessica Biel’s character from the 2010 film, Valentine’s Day, as inspiration), you can always do it with fun and colorful style, killer gift ideas, and the ultimate excuse to “treat yo-self” or someone you love!

It’s that time of the year again! The Toronto International Film Festival has come to a close and the fall film reviews are in! We at Lux Second Chance have taken a specific interest in films that deal with the topics of sustainability, the luxury market, and the ethics around fast-fashion. This year TIFF delivered with two titles that virtually speak for themselves: Rubaiyat Hossain’s insightful feature debut, Made in Bangladesh, and Michael Winterbottom’s latest mockumentary, Greed.

Sustainability: Just a Trend or the New Way to Shop?

Sustainability: Just a Trend or the New Way to Shop?

It seems like “fast-fashion” has become the new dirty word. Most commonly, you see it used as an insult directed towards specific companies in the name of the new sustainability craze. As sustainable fashion becomes a necessity as well as a trend, shoppers are looking for new ways to fill their wardrobes. Bring on the ever-growing rise of the resale—or second-hand—market.
